Common questions
How do I add GST in NZ?
Multiply the price by 1.15. For example, $100 plus GST is $115.
How do I remove GST from a price?
Divide the GST-inclusive price by 1.15 to get the price without GST. The GST part is 3/23 of the inclusive price — $115 includes $15 GST.
Why isn't GST 15% of the inclusive price?
Because the 15% was added to the original price, not the total. 15% of $115 is $17.25, which is too much; the GST included is $115 × 3 ÷ 23 = $15.
When do I have to register for GST?
When your business turns over, or expects to turn over, $60,000 or more in 12 months. You can register voluntarily below that.
